Quartz is made up of a lattice of silica (SiO2) tetrahedral. It is the 2nd most common mineral in the world. It's very hard rock having hardness around 7 on the Mohs scale and its density is 2.65 g/cm3.
Quartz is a common constituent of granite, sand stone, lime stone and many igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks. It occurs in hydrothermal veins and pegmatites. Well-formed crystals may reach several meters in length and weigh hundreds of kilograms.
The quartz mineral is usually processed in the grain size of 0 to 6 mm. However, it can further be ground in fine mesh as per buyers' application choice or demand. For commercial classification the qualities of Quartz are governed as identification marks like Glassy, Snow white, White or Semi-white grades.
